Petersburn Development Trust has just been awarded £180,000 from the Big Lottery Fund to help create a unique meeting area for young people in the new Petersburn Park.
£ 524,000 of funding has now been raised in total from Communities Scotland, North Lanarkshire Council, the Robertson Trust, BBC Children in Need, Linkwide, Link Group and the Big Lottery Fund.
Petersburn Development Trust is a new local organisation involving all the community groups in the area. The Trust has been formed to lead the regeneration of Petersburn Park and has 15 local directors.
Karen Whitefield MSP and Chairperson of the Trust commented, "At all stages the Petersburn Development Trust has listened to the views of local young people regarding their ambitions for the park. All members of the Trust would wish to thank Linkwide in particular for its excellent support. I am sure that we would not have got this far without them."
Cllr David Fagan commented , "As a youngster, I remember playing there and took for granted the opportunities that it provided to meet other local young people. Unfortunately, the park has been unusable over the last few years. I am pleased that, following this funding announcement, the young people of Petersburn will have the best play facility in North Lanarkshire."
