Community volunteers and young people in Petersburn and Craigneuk in North Lanarkshire will soon be enjoying the benefits of brand new PC equipment with training, technical support and a year's Internet access all included
It is all thanks to a partnership initiative led by Linkwide (part of the Link Group), North Lanarkshire Council's Stronger Communities and its Community Learning and Development Airdrie South Patch Team.
Through the PC Digital Links project, up to twenty community volunteers will benefit from computer facilities in their home and the whole community will benefit through the creation of a new Learning Resource Centre where computer based learning will take place. Local people will have improved opportunities to learn new things, access the Internet and improve work related skills through tailored training.
This exciting initiative brings at least £83,000 of investment to Petersburn and Craigneuk over the next three years thanks to funding and support from Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire and Communities Scotland.
Colin Coupar North Lanarkshire Council Senior Community Learning and Development Officer said: "Local people have just completed a SVQ Introductory course in Computing. Some of the group are undertaking the course to give them the skills to help them carry out their roles in active community groups. The group is delighted to be able to continue learning in a new resource centre.
"The new learning suite will help the councils Community Learning and Development, to work in Partnership with the Community, to provide a quality learning experience, and to widen involvement further."
