Streetlinks Youth Outreach Project

A new project, called Streetlinks, has been launched to identify and address the needs of young people, not currently accessing services or who are in need of support within West Dunbartonshire.

Detached youth workers hope to build trusting relationships with some of the most vulnerable, disconnected and troubled young people in the area.

By engaging with the young people on the streets the youth workers hope to encourage them into jobs, further education or sign post them to other agencies able to help.

Streetlinks follows on from the success of the Dalmuir Youth Outreach Video Project and the subsequent detached youth outreach pilot programme initiated and part funded by Dalmuir Park, Link and Trafalgar Housing Associations.

Liz Bain, Streetlinks Project Manager, said: "Following the success of the pilot Dalmuir Youth Outreach Video Project, Community Links secured funding through the Better Neighbourhood Services Fund (BNSF) to introduce an Outreach Project which would work specifically on the streets. Staff are now effectively engaging with the young people."

The BNSF has provided £120,000 worth of funding for the Streetlinks project. The project is currently funded until October 2006. The project has created nine new jobs including a Project Manager, two Detached Outreach Workers and six Sessional Staff.
