As it celebrates its second anniversary, Kirkshaws Dental Practice has opened a new surgery in response to an increasingly high demand from local people seeking NHS treatment.
Since opening for business at the start of 2006, dentist David McCallum has seen patients flock for treatment - his original target had been to register 1,500 patients within two years of opening but 2,500 patients are currently registered, improving access to NHS dental treatment available locally.
David said: "It has been very satisfying to see an improvement in the oral health of my patients since the practice opened, and the patients themselves are telling me that they are delighted to now have access to treatment. The high demand has meant I have been extremely busy so I'm very pleased that our new dentist, Colin McClure, has joined us to open a second surgery at the practice."
Linkwide, part of the Link group, built the dental practice with support from Communities Scotland's Wider Role programme. Linkwide worked with NHS Lanarkshire to identify the need and financed the £340,000 project to support its tenants and others in the area.
Link's Chief Executive Craig Sanderson said: "The second surgery will undoubtedly allow the practice to continue to meet what is clearly a very strong need for NHS dental treatment in Kirkshaws. We believe the practice demonstrates Link's strong commitment to community regeneration and it's rewarding that this commitment is having a positive impact where it counts - with local people. Like Mr McCallum, we're delighted that dental health in the area is improving."
