Petersburn Project Celebrates Success

On Tuesday 20 August Brenda Higgins, Director of Community Regeneration, Linkwide Limited was joined by North Lanarkshire Councillor Donna Morris, Robert Kilpatrick Director of Prospects (Glasgow) Limited and others, to celebrate the highly successful Petersburn Estate Management Initiative (PEMI).

Now in its eighth month, PEMI is an innovative Intermediate Labour Market project that is run as a contract between Linkwide (part of the Link Group of housing and service providers) and Prospects. Using monies from the national New Deal programme and further sponsorship from Communities Scotland, North Lanarkshire Council and the Petersburn Craigneuk Community Forum, the PEMI project has made a considerable improvement to the immediate Petersburn environment whilst offering training opportunities to previously unemployed people.

Brenda Higgins said of the PEMI project, "this Wider Role project is making a tremendous positive difference in Petersburn. The quality of the environment is greatly improved and we have received lots of encouraging feedback from local residents who have commented on the improvements and commended Prospects on the quality of their work. On behalf of the Link Group, we are also delighted to record that this project has now assisted 8 project participants secure alternative full-time employment".

The celebration event, held in the Four Isles Community Centre, was open to residents and tenants living in Petersburn. Also attending on the day were members of the Calder Glen Amateur Football Club appearing in their new season's strip and kitbag, the cost of which was jointly provided by Prospects and Linkwide.
