Communities Scotland are joining forces with a consortium of six registered social landlords to pioneer new ways of building social housing.
A framework agreement, signed by the partners today, commits members of the Larach Alliance - Castle Rock Housing Association, Hillcrest Housing Association, Kingdom Housing Association, Link Group, Perthshire Housing Association and West of Scotland Housing Association - to build 800 new affordable homes over the next three years, with an investment of £40 million from Communities Scotland as part of their ongoing programme.
Working in partnership, the alliance aims to improve the quality and sustainability of affordable homes and secure better value for money through streamlining the supply of materials and building methods.
The project will be assessed in terms of the cost, quality and sustainability of the homes delivered, and how easily the procurement process will be to replicate in terms of efficiency and value for money.
Craig Sanderson, spokesperson for the Larach Alliance said:
''Larach is the Gaelic word for foundation. Our alliance is founded on a desire to revolutionise the housing construction process and the contractor/client relationship. Through our partnership, we aim to deliver exceptional levels of sustainable development and higher standards, not only in terms of the quality of the houses we build, but also throughout the whole supply and construction process. Other priorities are improved health and safety on site, reduced waste enhanced training and employment opportunities and reduced running costs for residents."
