Link continues to tackle financial exclusion by joining Dunfermline Building Society Saving & Loan Scheme

Link has reinforced its commitment to tackling financial exclusion by joining Dunfermline Building Society’s Savings & Loan Scheme.

The scheme provides an easy access savings account at favourable interest rates and offers small affordable loans. It also enables those who do not have access to mainstream financial services to establish a relationship with a recognised building society and build a credit history. Link will actively support the scheme and promote its benefits to its tenants and sharing owners.

Link could be regarded as a pioneer amongst Scottish Housing Associations in promoting financial inclusion. In 1999, it was one of the first associations to set up an advice team dedicated to tackling poverty and inequalities. The team expanded in 2005 with the launch of the Money Advice Project, which has a specific remit to assist Link customers with debt and financial inclusion problems. An Older Person’s Advice Project providing advice tailored to the over 60s was also launched in 2005.

Craig Sanderson, Chief Executive of Link Group said: “Link has an established track record in income maximisation and the promotion of financial inclusion and by joining forces with Dunfermline Building Society we are continuing our strong commitment to these issues.”

Ken Dow, Senior Manager, Community Development, at Dunfermline Building Society said, “The Society is delighted to partner Link Housing Association in this wider action initiative. The Savings and Loans scheme has been specifically designed to assist Housing Association tenants and allow them to make informed and affordable choices when dealing with their personal finances.”
