Linkwide helps Petersburn Development Trust create a DVD

Supported by North Lanarkshire Council Community Learning & Development Team, the Petersburn Development Trust (PTD) hosted an outstandingly successful event in Gartlea Community Centre to celebrate the involvement of young people in Petersburn who have produced a DVD about Petersburn Park.

This unique DVD screened for the first time on Thursday 16 November incorporates a drama written and acted out by local young people. Our new local celebrities Rebecca, Daniel, Scott, Conner, Aidan, Steven,Natalie and Aaron undertook training in the skills of filming, recording, interviewing and scriptwriting in order to produce the film. The ‘all action’ DVD is now a testimony to the successful regeneration of Petersburn and a celebration of partnership work and a focus for the continued involvement of local young people in improving Petersburn Park'.

Rebecca Coleman, speaking on behalf of herself and all the young people involved in making the DVD said: "We appreciated getting the opportunity to make this film and one of the best bits for me was interviewing the lots of different people who make up the community of Petersburn."

PDT Chairperson, Karen Whitefield MSP, said: "This was a very successful event and I know that the parents of all the young people involved were very proud of thie children. I was amazed by the high quality of the DVD. The young people involved learned a range of skills, including camera work, sound engineering and script writing. This DVD shows that young people, who often get a bad reputation, can be a very positive force in our communities."

Craig Sanderson, chief executive Link Group, said: “ For decades the piece of ground in the middle of the estate was a wasteland. Its spectacular re-development as a safe play and activity area to complement more than 300 new and improved homes is a testament to the dedication of local families and their commitment to the regeneration of Petersburn.”
