Link's 'Litter Brigade' Cleans Up

A team of youngsters at the Link Housing Association flats in Whyte Place, Edinburgh, have taken matters into their own hands to tackle a litter problem in their play area.

After chatting about the problem with housing officer Suzanne Sheerin, the children suggested forming their own 'litter brigade' to patrol the area once a week to collect and bin the lolly sticks, drinks cans and other rubbish that had been building up.

The children made short work of the first clean-up. Community Police Officer PC Paul Lundberg also stopped by to lend a hand.

Suzanne Sheerin, housing officer with Link Housing Association said: "With the summer holidays approaching, the children will be out in force and they wanted to make sure the ground where they play was kept litter free. They have been so enthusiastic about the project, we're all very impressed with the effort they have put in."
