Link HQ opened by Minister for Communities & Sport

Stewart Maxwell, Minister for Communities and Sport, officially opened the head office of Link, the housing and regeneration group, on Tuesday 15 April 2008.

Link has moved to the redeveloped Swan building in New Mart Road, Slateford, Edinburgh, after many years working from Albany Street in the city centre. The new office accommodates around 40 members of staff and boasts flexible conferencing facilities and meeting space, drop in zones and a large external terrace. In addition, the building’s energy efficiency measures such as passive solar gain, natural ventilation, high efficiency boilers and improved water management has allowed Link to reduce its carbon footprint.

Around 100 guests attended the official opening, which featured speeches by Mr Maxwell, Link’s Chair Robbie Robertson and its Chief Executive Craig Sanderson.

Link CEO Craig Sanderson said: “We’re pleased that, in agreeing to open our new HQ, Mr Maxwell recognises Link’s important work providing affordable housing, leading community regeneration projects and supporting people in independent living. Link has had a strong presence in Edinburgh and right across the central belt for more than 40 years and we see our move to a bigger, better office as the start of a new chapter in our ongoing growth and development.”

Minister for Communities and Sport, Stewart Maxwell, said: “I am delighted to be able to open the Link group’s new head office and wish them all the best in their new premises. Established now for 45 years, Link has been a longstanding contributor to the Scottish housing sector and is currently one of the administrators of the Scottish Government’s LIFT open market shared equity scheme for first time buyers.

“The Link group has worked hard to provide greater choice in the range of housing and services it offers, this is an aim shared by the Scottish Government and demonstrated in our housing policy proposals. Our discussion document, Firm Foundations, outlines our commitment to achieving a housing system capable of providing opportunities for all to flourish and support sustainable economic growth.

“We firmly believe that we must increase the supply of housing across all tenures, provide more choice of housing that those on lower incomes can afford and develop a social housing sector that provides better value for public expenditure.”
