Edinburgh Young Persons Service

Edinburgh Young Persons Service provides a visiting tenancy support service, comprising of practical, social and personal support to young people between 16-25 years, who require support and are willing to actively engage with it.

Support is provided to access, establish and maintain a tenancy. Pre-tenancy support can include accessing tenancies through Edinex and PSL, and then support with all aspects of setting up a tenancy, including furnishing, decorating, maximising benefits and dealing with rent and utilities. In addition support can be provided to develop natural support networks.

Support is person centred, flexible and responsive to the changing needs of the service user. It can vary from once a week to 7 days a week and can be provided for up to 2 years, if required. It can help people to: develop tenancy management skills such as budgeting, healthy eating, shopping, cooking, paying bills and to live safely and securely in their own home. It also promotes active citizenship.

The EYPS is mainly funded through Supporting People. with a remit to provide flexible individually planned tenancy support that is responsive to changing circumstances with vulnerable young people. Young people need to be able to make mistakes, learn new skills and gain knowledge while exploring their rights and responsibilities as both tenants and as active citizens of a community.

EYPS will also consider providing support services, funded differently, where Supporting People funding is not appropriate.

The service is accessed by completion and submission of an initial application form, signed by the applicant.
